New granulometric expressions for estimating permeability of granular drainages

Abstract This paper describes a new formulation for estimating the permeability of drainages composed natural sands with no clay content, starting from parameters obtained grain size distribution. The conventional relationships are functions granulometric factors and porosity. However, media typically used as drainage, grading is determinant factor, so porosity dependence can be replaced by function average grading. methodology in this study consists fitting set measured values to joint expression coefficient. To end, effective diameter that numerically graphically defined, relationship solely dependent on diameter. estimate later changes drainage packing consequent variations porosity, contrasting modification Kozeny–Carman equation established. considers applicable any granular media.
